: I need to calculate a high symmetry (D2h,D4h)complex in the external electric field produced by point charges. Problem is that point charges are arranged in a different symmetry or without any symmetry. Can I still take advantage of the complex D2h,D4h symmetry?

No. You must have the same pointgroup for the
point charges. Also, if the charges are arranged
in a subgroup of the complex's pointgroup, you
will have symmetry breaking, an effect you want!?
